Rifidi Edge Alien Documentation

This is a help document for using the Alien reader in Rifidi Edge.

Overview

There is already a basic overview of general Rifidi Edge functionality at the Edge Server User Documentation page. This will be a more in-depth look at what you can do with the Alien and Rifidi Edge.

Getting Started

First we will need to create a reader and connect to it. Check the Edge Server User Documentation for how to do that. Create a session on the Alien reader you just created, and start it to make sure the connection is working properly. If you wish you can click on the icon of the reader you created and adjust some of the properties.

Creating and Customizing a Command

Now you will need to create and customize a tag command for the Alien. Look to the "Command View" tab in the lower right and right click on the "Alien-9800_GetTagList" folder. Select "Create Command Template" and left click on the command that is created.

Now that you have clicked on that command, the properties for the command will show up on the bottom right. The first of these properties is the Tag Type. Set the property to 2 if you want both Gen1 and Gen2 tags, 0 if you want only Gen1 tags, and 1 if you only want Gen2 tags.

For the antenna sequence, you need to choose what sequence you would like the antennas to call and what order they will be called in. For instance, setting the value to 0,2,1,0 will poll antenna 0, then antenna 2, then antenna 1, and finally antenna 0 again.

For the persist time variable, set how long you want the tags to stay in the memory after they have left the field, in seconds. Setting the value to -1 will keep the tags in the tag memory until they are retrieved.

The last setting is the interval setting. For this, you can set the time in milliseconds between polls for the tag list.
